Georgia Regents University Augusta Athletics and the Shepeard Community Blood Center will host the inaugural “Hoops for Heroes Blood Drive Challenge” to benefit the local blood supply. The competition, between GRU Augusta and USC Aiken, will take place Jan. 27-31. All donors will receive a free “Hoops for Heroes” T-shirt, and a cookout, donated by Shepeard, will be held at the blood drive.
The GRU vs. USCA basketball game will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. at USCA. The school with the most presenting blood donors will receive a trophy during halftime of the men’s basketball game and be declared 2014’s “Hoops for Heroes” Champion.
Blood drives will take place at each collegiate campus as well as at all three of Shepeard’s fixed locations. On Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 9 a.m.–2 p.m., donate on behalf of GRU in the Jaguar Student Activities Center Ballroom on the Summerville Campus or the bloodmobile from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. The cookout will be held for participants during the on-campus blood drive.
Those who are unable to give on campus may donate at a center. Refer to the following group codes to ensure that your donation is credited to the correct school: 1000 for GRU and 1370 for USCA. Or tell the front desk receptionist the name of the school you are supporting with your donation.
The blood drive challenge is open to all students, faculty, staff, alumni, fans, supporters, and the general public. For more information, visit shepeardblood.org or call 706-737-4551.
